The face of the Buddha is beautifully smooth and polished, in contrast to the surround, which shows the natural bark and texture of the wood. Our Buddhas are made by skilled artisans working in small community groups. Each Buddha is slightly different no two are ever identical. It is also referred to as Satin wood, on account of the smooth, coolness of the finished surface. It is indigenous to many countries; including Indonesia, Nepal, India, China and South America. Used in traditional medicine and an important culinary ingredient - the highly prized ripe berries are used in hot, spicy sauces. Crocodile woods natural hardness means it can be carved into finely detailed and intricate designs; giving a very crisp appearance.
