This cabinet is an exquisite example of traditional Indian craftsmanship. The decorated door panel is set within a turquoise floral border and depicts an elephant standing under a tree of life. Vivid green parrots perch on branches hung with a profusion of flowers and fruits. The drawer front is painted with a pair of elephants surrounded by a landscape of trees, bright sunflowers - and more perching parrots! The door and drawer are fitted with brass knobs. The drawer is also fitted with a ‘stop’ - a safety feature that prevents the drawer from falling forwards. The painted areas have been finished using a protective ‘cracquelure’ surface glaze which creates a random pattern of fine lines, giving an aged and ‘antiqued’ appearance while the unpainted areas have been gently waxed to show off the natural grain. Handmade and fairly traded from India using sustainable, accredited mango wood and MDF.
